Round Robin Trip

Colorado Springs

The final section of this trip was a few days with my grand daughter, Elizabeth, and my sister Chickee down in Colorado Springs.  By this point, I must confess I was tired of living out of a suitcase, but the wonderful company was a true delight.

The California Zephyr was about an hour behind schedule when it rolled into Denver Union Station. Elizabeth met me there and after my checked luggage was unloaded, she an I caught the next RTD train out to the airport for the rental car then headed to Colorado Springs.  It was very late when we finally arrived at the B&B and we welcomed a good night’s sleep.

Cave of the Winds

Friday morning, after a hearty breakfast, we decided to visit the Cave of the Winds.  It was beautiful.  I don’t think that it is quite as large as the Natural Bridge Caverns outside of San Antonio, but it was still impressive.

Garden of the Gods

On Saturday morning, Chickee joined us for a full day jeep tour around the Garden of the Gods and Manitou Springs.  It was great having someone else do the driving and explain things to us.  What a delightful day.

When our jeep tour went through Manitou Springs we saw that there was a festival underway for the Labor Day weekend.  So, after our tour wrapped up, we headed back over to Manitou Springs.  I don’t even need to tell you what happened next, do I?  Yep, that’s right.  We drove around in vane looking for a parking spot!

Snake Tattoos

So we headed over to Chickee’s house where her son Bobby had cooked up some wonderful ribs. While we were there, Elizabeth made friends with their pets.  As soon as George, the snake, saw Elizabeth, he was enchanted.  He stretched out toward her to get a closer look.  Surely he recognized her as a dear friend once he saw her lovely body art.  Yes, indeed, tattoos are contagious.

Final Day

My last day started WAY earlier than I had planned and I was really exhausted.  Elizabeth was called in to cover a day shift at the hospital, so we got up before 5 am to close up the Air B&B, get on the road, leave Colorado Springs, and have her a the hospital before her 7 am shift.  Made for an “interesting” start to the day.

Later that  afternoon, I had delightful short visit with Jim Marsiglia and his family.  It was good to catch up even though I did not take a single photos.  We seems to talk non-stop before I had to head out to airport.  I really enjoyed out brief visit.
