Grand Finale

Atlanterhavsvegen

The Atlantic Road

On our final full day, our group left the Ship in Kristiansund, and enjoyed a bus trip along Route 64 to join the Ship again in Molde. On this route, the stretch known as the Atlantic Road links the western part of Averøy Island with the mainland.

During the journey we stopped at a strategically placed rest area with a protected walkway around the little island.

Bergtatt Marble Mine

Before we returned to the Ship we stopped by the Bergtatt marble and limestone mine.

Mining operations have been taking place here since 1938 and are still ongoing in other parts of the mountain.

We began in the Grand Hall and learned about the challenges o operating this mine and watched a fascinating film about the marble mine.

Then we were treated to  a unique subterranean dining experience where we enjoyed their traditional meat and vegetable stew, made from local ingredients.

Finally we were fitted with safety equipment and boarded rafts on the illuminated crystal-clear lake. We glided along the calm water and stopped to get a taste of the pure water that springs from the rock wall.

Farewell

That wraps up the highlights of this wonderful, fast paced tour of Norway.
