Alsace: Part 7

Once again I start out with an editorial note. Looking back at #4, 5, and 6, it appears that the “gallery” features does not let you see the photo. So, I went back and loaded those photos individually.

Saverne

We spent the night in Saverne, so we began today with a walking tour of the old city that dates back before the Roman Empire. So Saverne was around when the Siblings @nd their parents were in this region, but no reason to believe that they traveled here.

The modern canal system is built through the town . The two images of houses with reflections in the water were taken from the sun deck on our boat where we were docked. The unicorn is the towns symbol, so it is seen all over including in the town park.the beautiful streets are lined with many good examples of Alsatian half-timber houses.

After the morning walk we continued cruising further east to Waltenheim. After we docked for the evening, we walked down the block for a traditional Alsacien meal. This restaurant has been in this family for 5 generations but it may not see a sixth. The owner said the younger generation is not interested in continuing on. It was a terrific meal that Alsatians have eaten since the Middle Ages (more about the food later). I will add a photo of our group later (someone else took that shot). For now I will include a photo of our young captain and his crew dining at the same restaurant.
