Alsace: Part 2

Strasbourg

I need to begin with an apology to Alsace and it’s rich history. My focus is on the early 1700s when the Siblings (my way of talking about the four who left Alsace and traveled to the New World) and Alsace of today. Obviously that omits many important events.

My adventure begins in Strasbourg, the intellectual and economic capital of Alsace. It dates back to early times since because of its strategic location – an island that links to the Rhine River. The Roman soldiers built a fortress here and it grew from there. The siblings were more than likely aware of Strasbourg but probably did not visit. Since there were large slaughter houses in Strasbourg and their father is said to be a cow herder, one might imagine that he could have delivered some of the cattle.

While there is much more to tell you about Strasbourg, it is late and I have another full day tomorrow.
